Juniper Needles (Juniperus arizonica)
Juniper is a lovely medicinal plant that has an affinity for the urinary tract and the respiratory system. It has strong aromatic volatile oils that disinfect, are antiseptic, and are antibacterial.
I enjoy making tea out of the needles for lingering coughs. I use hot water but not boiling because the medicinal oils are heat sensitive. Pour hot water over the needles, cover, and let steep for 10-15 minutes. Add raw honey and you have a delicious healing brew.
You can also make an herbal oil or herbal tincture out of the juniper needles.
